This popular STEM workshop is back! In the workshop you’ll build a low-cost microscope from materials we’ll bring, you’ll become an expert at using it, and you’ll brainstorm about how best to use it with students (particularly in the NC grades 2-5 science curriculum). You’ll walk away with the microscope you built, so you can use it in your school as soon as you like!

  • Diversity This session puts low-cost, easily-built microscopes in hands of educators. And at the end of the session, I offer to visit and run an in-school workshop at any public elementary school in the state where >75% of the students were on free/reduced lunch pre-pandemic and where at least 12 teachers will build a microscope each for the school to keep. Focusing on low-cost tools and offering to follow up in areas of poverty helps support diversity, equity and inclusion. I also make use of DEI training I've had to ensure that the language I use supports diversity, equity and inclusion.
