The four pillars of personalized learning each play integral parts in moving to true student ownership of teaching and learning! This session will feature a station rotation about the four pillars, where participants will move among the stations to encounter a personalized experience involving varied learning models about the four pillars--learner profile, individualized paths, competency based progression, and flexible learning environments. Each station will feature a learning model: flipped, playlist, teacher-led station, and collaboration station. When participants leave, they should have a working knowledge of strategies to personalize learning in their classroom/school as well as their own understanding of the pillars and why they are important. Effective personalized learning includes a blend of meaningful, engaging online learning and meaningful, engaging offline learning which will be modeled in the stations as well.

  • Diversity Since students play the largest role in personalized learning in deciding what/how they need to learn about content (based on their own data, of course), each student (adult learners in this case) will be able to take into account their own background knowledge and their specific needs to reach their intended goal. The entire session focuses on EACH student getting what THEY need in order to succeed! The personalized learning strategies modeled in the session can be adapted to span the needs of all types of learners, environments with seemingly inequitable resources, and incorporate the principles of universal design for learning.
