Interactive Civic Literacy - Embracing the Controversies in the Social Studies Classroom By Using Technology

Participants will be actively involved in the session by engaging with the presenter concerning uses of technology in a Civic Literacy framework, especially regarding controversial topics they all face when teaching any social studies curriculum. Participants will be provided technology resources specific to the Civic Literacy curriculum and the unique aspects of teaching this course in current day setting. This session will provide a specific focus on how to help students identify technology resources which allow them to view a variety of perspectives on a topic and create a comprehensive assessment of their thought process concerning their belief system.

Therefore, part of the session will identify how to incorporate the support of these ideas within a variety of controversial topics in addition to establishing an interactive Civic Literacy focus for students to recognize and embrace their peers unique views and perspectives as they learn and grapple with their own worldview considerations.
