During our session, participants will work collaboratively to complete a coding challenge with others at their table. Each table will be provided with challenge task cards, a Cubetto robot, a coding board, coding blocks, and a scenic map. Each participant will also be given a paper coding board and blocks to practice with before using the actual electronic board. Lessons will be shared that incorporated Math, Science, Social Studies, and ELA skills.

  • Diversity To support diversity, equity and inclusion, our session will provide example lessons for all types of learners. The Cubetto robot is a tangible way to teach basic block coding to students in PreK-2nd grade. It is very easy to handle with larger-sized pieces that can be used by students with physical disabilities. With this hands-on style of coding, students are encouraged to work together in groups to solve problems and think creatively. This will encourage the inclusion of various student academic abilities working together. Equality is also easily addressed by using Cubetto, as it can be passed around by the students giving everyone a chance. Unlike other robots, Cubetto is very durable and can withstand drops and falls...plus it can be sanitized! Paper coding blocks and boards will also be provided to participants to demonstrate how we teach in our schools. This gives everyone a chance to participate and learn at their own pace.
